Latest About MiTV5

There were rumours again that Xiaomi is going to launch MiTV5 around end November 2919.  This time,  the leak was said to be from a senior executive from Xiaomi.

The rumours about MiTV5 to be launched in March 2019 did not materialise. Instead, Xiaomi came up in April 2019 with several newer MiTV4s that have bezeless full screen LED panels.  It is having  about the same technical specification as the rest of other MiTVs.  They called these,  the E series.

Subsequently, Xiaomi pushed out the other varieties such as the "picture-on-the-wall" series, Redmi 70" and the latest in September 2019, the MiTV Pro Full screen.

There was nothing mentioned about MiTV5 until the MiTV Global version started its sale in Hong Kong also in September 2019. This Global version is much different from the rest.  It  came with an Andriod TV OS and also a PatchWall OS that in specification, very similar to those MiTV sets sold in India and Indonesia in later part of 2018.   These  Global version sold in Hong Kong were branded with serial numbers of "V5", which could misled to mean MiTV5.    According to the Chinese magazine, "ZNDS", Xiaomi registered its "M5" series in March 2019 and could very well be the MiTV5 to be launched in 2019.

The New Xiaomi TV5 (MiTV5)

There were rumours that Xiaomi was launching Xiaomi TV5.  That was around mid 2018.  However, there was no official news.  The market was disappointed when Xiaomi came out with another 4 new models around October 2018 based on TV4 series.    Meantime,  everyone is waiting for TV5 which was rumoured to be launched around March 2019.

What’re the Main Differences

The main differences according to the specification and the picture shown are as follows

Note that the Android TV in TV5 is expected to have Google Service Assistance which will enable one to use Google Play.   However,  many Apps in Google Play are not designed to be played in Android TV.  Also,  the new OS will not help to resolve the problem of not being able to play YouTube or Netflix 4K movies as it does not have the VP9 decoder,  which is a propriety product of Google.

Why there is a Delay in the Launch?

It could be the new OS,   Android TV,  has some bugs if TV5's OS is the same OS as the PRO series recently introduced in India and Indonesia.   Many users in India found that they could not connect to many bluetooth devices nor they can use the Dolby sound devices correctly.  Other complained about the frequent Internet disconnections.   Many could not configure their connected device as the OS does not allow manual configuration etc.   Xiaomi might want to wait for these bugs to be fully tested and  cleared out.
